This course introduces the principles of molding layout, proportion, and classical interior design. Drawing from historical precedents, participants will learn how traditional building methods and design logic can inform and elevate contemporary classical design.
INSTRUCTOR: BRENT HULL
Brent Hull is an award-winning master builder. He is an expert in historically accurate architectural millwork and moldings and his work is in nationally registered properties and homes across the country. In the early 1990’s he studied Historic Preservation at the prestigious North Bennet Street School in Boston and learned the art of traditional building. He returned to North Texas in 1993 and started his business in the garage of a 1911 Bungalow.
Over the past 30 years, the Brent Hull Companies have received numerous awards, including ICAA John Staub and Traditional Builder Palladio Awards. Brent is an author, designer, speaker, consultant and teacher. He loves to read, sketch and spend time with his family. His greatest professional aim is to help everyone who desires to build better and more beautifully to do so.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1) Understand how moldings were historically organized and applied
2) Recognize key principles of classical design and proportion
3) Identify historic building methods that contributed to well-composed spaces
4) Apply lessons from historic design to improve modern residential interiors
5) Begin laying out moldings using proportion and hierarchy
